A number of my colleagues and other Friends of Burton made the trek to the Atlanta RMHC recently to prepare dinner for families residing at the facility.  While none of us will be mistaken for graduates of Le Cordon Bleu, we did manage to whip up a few dishes that evoked responses of “best meal in the two weeks we’ve been here” and “that was some really good Italian food”.

The menu consisted of salad, a variety of homemade pizzas, pasta, garlic and cheese bread, an elaborate fruit platter and chocolate chip cookies.  After dinner we visited with a number of the families, each sharing their story of loved ones who were being treated at nearby hospitals.  Many had been away from home for weeks, and it was a reminder to all of us to cherish life daily and be appreciative for our health, family and friends.  And it reiterated how fortunate I am to work with such caring and selfless individuals.

While the families shared their appreciation for our efforts, the Burton team walked away truly thankful for doing our small part to help such a worthy cause.   All the Burton want-to-be-chefs made it a point to return soon!
