There is one thing that many of us at Burton share and that is a love for sports! If you have met our Managing Partners, spent time with our Management Team, or been in our office during a major sporting event, it’s no secret that our passion expands well beyond football (a Southern religion). We have all experienced excitement and heartache as we’ve watched our teams compete, but this year, some of our teams made it all the way!

Our banner year kicked off with Mississippi State winning the College World Series. Going in as the underdog, State managed to out-pitch and out-hit each team they faced, going undefeated into the final series. It was the first Championship title in school history and while Brent is the only alum at Burton, the Bulldogs gained extra fans from Atlanta, while competing in Omaha. Fortunately, Brent and his family were able to attend and see State bring home the hardware, while those of us watching, caught glimpses of the family on ESPN.

In November, it was our beloved Atlanta Braves that brought a Championship back to the City! After the disappointment of losing the All-Star game, it was extra sweet to be at Truist Park watching post-season baseball all the way to the World Series. A few of us in the office were fortunate enough to attend some NLDS, NLCS, and World Series games and watch these underdogs earn their rings and the World Series trophy.

As the end of college football season begins to draw near, excitement is abound in the office with three “Burton” teams in the college football playoff. Mark is our lone Michigan fan, as most of the allegiance is to SEC teams. Based on the conference championships, the Dawgs have their work cut out for them against the Wolverines. A few in the office will be rolling with the Tide, but overall, I think most people in the South are hoping for another Alabama versus UGA matchup for the title! No matter the outcome, the odds are in favor of a “Burton” team to bring home a Championship!

We love our sports and we are passionate about our teams, which often leads to lively conversations in the hallway after a big weekend of games. It’s certainly no surprise that many of our company events revolve around sports, but it’s a connection at Burton in which we all embrace.
